Long time no see!
The look I’m wearing here is what I wore for brunch with the boyfriend and my family on Christmas Day. Since it was brunch at a Korean grill house, I didn’t want to wear something too dramatic and glitzy, so I went for a subdued shimmery look. Here’s the palette I used.

Left: ELF The Beauty Encyclopedia, Neutrals Edition. A mere 4.99 at Walgreens. Right: World's crappiest poopiest smudgiest eyeliner.
I got this palette at Walgreens. This is my first time ever seeing an ELF product outside of the internet. Obviously, I don’t get out much.

Do you ever follow the instructions that come with these things? I didn't really pay attention mainly because I assume it wouldn't work for bulgy monolids like me.
I’m very much liking this palette. Because it’s a well-balanced mix of shimmery and matte colors, I was able to pull off various different looks, ranging from very subtle and natural to more dramatic and intense. And they didn’t look crappy. That last part is very important.
For being a cheap drugstore palette, this really did exceed my expectations. I think the biggest setback is that the shimmers don’t photograph very well. This could be my own limitations as a camera wielder. The shimmer isn’t strong in real life but it does show better.
Other products I’m wearing include:
Face
Formula D The Ultimate Powder (I am so addicted to this stuff)
MUFE HD Invisible Cover Foundation #117
MUFE Full Cover Concealer #4
the Body Shop Blush Trio in Warm Sunset
Lips
NYX Round Lipstick in Fusion
Sephora lip gloss in Flushed

Again, I’m disappointed with how the shimmer doesn’t show at all in these photos but I’ve always had a problem with capturing shimmer with my Canon G9. I don’t know a thing about how cameras work, so I have no idea how to work around this. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Korean Grill House for Brunch
Portland’s food scene has come a long way but the Korean restaurant scene is still very lacking. There are tons of Korean restaurants in Beaverton but none of them would really blow anybody away. Still, it’s not horrible, either, and places like Tae Jang Keum do hit the spot.
Grilled mackerel is one of my most favorite favorite things in the world. I could live on grilled mackerel and rice everyday. I love the fat kind and I especially love the skinny kind. Wait, they’re both called mackerel, right? Or do you specifically call the skinny one mackerel pike? WHO CARES THEY ARE FOOD AND I EAT THEM BOTH OM NOM NOM NOM NOM
So, happy belated Christmas and Boxing Day to you!! Have you started working on your New Year’s Resolutions, yet?
With love,
Al

I am alienman. Writing a small blurb about myself is the hardest thing to do. "Blurb" is a funny word.

I <3 this look! Thank you for loving The Ultimate Powder. Love your necklace and OMG, your food pictures make me hungry! Merry Christmas, my favorite Alienman!
Maybe try different lighting for your photographs… That’s about all I have on that… since my school wouldn’t let me into a photography class, because apparently you actually have to own a camera to get in….;P
As for resolutions…. Exercise more, get straight A’s, Get a job, Save money, Start doing Youtube videos again… hahahaha wish me luck!
Lol.
Aren’t you looking gorgeous as usual!! I think I am off to have some Korean BBQ with my friends later this week!!
To combat your photo problemmmm…… Have the boyfriend take it!!
— Nah, what I always found to be helpful when I was still doing a lot of makeup posts was to stand near a window for natural diffused light and take a bunch of photographs till one works!! I always liked taking self portraits with a mirror so I could kind of see how it would look like before I clicked the shutter
Ahha, I kind of ended up rambling a bunch, but I hope that helped a bit!
the palette looks so sleek and versatile. love! and the food is just to die for. so yum
check out my blog and holiday giveaway http://www.fruitylashes.com
You look lovely!
The palette looks fun.
Your photo looks like it has a bit of soft focus/flare going on that softens the light. But I’m not familiar with your camera so dunno
The food looks so good! Korean food is good in Tokyo, but they’re usually pretty stingy about the side dishes. So that’s what gogi means.
Argh, hungry now, but stuck at work.
I didn’t know a deer in headlights look can be so sexy, alienman. The food looks delicious!
One of my new year resolutions started 6 weeks ago lol. It was to lose weight and get healthier.
this is random but, I was wondering if you would like to join a tumblr fitness community. I just proposed the idea on my blog and I don’t know if there will be any takers. I know you used the lose it app and are continuing to work out and I thought a tumblr of yours would be awesome.
I had mackerel and rice today.
oh i tried commenting on this with my phone bu ti guess it didnt work.
all i wanted to say was that i really liked this natural look. so refreshing because i normally do a heavier eye and pale lips, but its nice to see a redder lip.
oh and BOOBIES!!!!!!!!
oohh.. i love the brown shades.. so pretty!
Thanks for the replies and the camera suggestions.
Susan: I was going to go for a pale nude lip but, with my brown hair and brown eye makeup, I felt like it was going to look too flat and boring, so I went with a bright lip color. I’m so glad you like it
Alllllllll, i love your lips. They look so luscious in that color. When I read Dao’s comment about a necklace, I was like, “What??? What necklace? All I remembered seeing was cleavage.” -_- sorry…
I’m glad to see you making updates while I was gone though. Now I get to procrastinate from my work in the office to stalk you.
wheeeee!
Oooh, is that 삼겹살? (I hope the characters show up properly.) Yummm…
I discovered your blog over a year ago, and found it again today. I’m glad that you’re continuing to post updates!
The berry lip fits you really well, btw.
