Again, this was originally posted by yours truly on I Need Pretty Things.
By mineral foundation, I speak of the loose powder kind. Today, I will give a brief and simple breakdown of brushes that work well with mineral foundation brushes.
I’ve already mentioned that the duo-fiber brush is good for both liquid and mineral foundations. Liquid foundation tends to go on more thick while mineral makeup application with the same brush is more sheer. In both cases, the stippling brush is great for a flawless and even application.
The most popular type of brush for mineral foundations is the kabuki brush. These often come with short stubby handles and the brush itself is large and full with a rounded top. A kabuki brush should be very, very soft, since the densely packed bristles will make a lot of contact with your face.

Sigma Flat Top Synthetic Kabuki Brush
My personal favorite mineral foundation brush is the flat-top buffer. I feel that the foundation doesn’t fly out as much, so the application is more concentrated. Like the kabuki, you want this to be very, very soft but firm enough to press the powder in.
Where to Buy
The photos in this post are all from the website of Sigma, a company that specializes in makeup brushes. I would also repeat the same recommendations that I gave for choosing a liquid foundation brush. In addition, I highly recommend you check out Everyday Minerals, the maker of the best flat-top buffer brush I’ve ever used.
