The food cart scene seems to have exploded, spawned and spread like spore in the four years that I’d been away. They are now clustered in groups in a frequent distribution throughout the city; you’re never far from blocks of street-side food vendors who are ready to serve some great dishes for dirt cheap. Yelp! can’t keep up with how fast the food scene is growing. Most of my favorite places aren’t even listed yet. The best resource I’ve found for food carts, so far, is Food Carts Portland. I considered sharing all pictures I’ve taken in a single post but it’d take all day just to look at the pictures. So, here are just a few for now.

Food stands at SW 4th and Hall, near PSU campus. I actually used to live right down the block from here and there was never a place like this then!

Kruo Bangkok at SW 4th and Hall. I was lured by the charming decor and retained by the warm friendliness of the cook and cashier.

I've been here twice already. Saying no to delicious $5 pad khee mao is like saying no to winning the lottery.

SW 9th/10th and Alder in the business district of Downtown Portland. Of all the food cart areas I've visited, this one seems to have the most.

Lunchtime! Patrons eagerly await their orders.

The bustle and liveliness of food cart culture.

Samurai Bento on SW 9th and Alder. Sure, the prices are reasonable and the menu selection is great. What really gets me coming here is the hot guy at the window. A zero-calorie eye candy to go with my savory meal never hurts.

Piping hot katsu don from Samurai Bento.
More to come!

omg NYC should really catch up with Portland. The only kinds of food carts I see outside my campus are hotdog stands, halal carts, and dosa. You’re so lucky you get the Thai and Japanese carts!

I saw your other post about Koreans and if they ever say nice things. When I saw that you were 140 lbs, I was in shocked because you look really skinny to me! All this time I thought you were around 110. It doesn’t matter how much you weigh, because you still look thin and healthy!
FOOOOD! Everytime I visit a new place, I always go to where the food is. It’s amazing how food can define the places you visit. That pad khee mao looks so delicious. (drool)
You make me want to move to Portland to have some decent food! Your town looks like a lot of fun!
