I wanted a deep, deep matte wine or burgundy color nail polish color. I picked this up at a Sally’s in Eugene.

Finger Paints: Shades of Dark
Actually, I had picked this up as a gift for someone but I ended up keeping it, hahaha. Selfish, selfish Alienman.
I totally suck at gift-giving. I had bought a bunch of nail polish and ELF knick knacks to give as Xmas stocking stuffers to my friends and my cousin (the one who had bought me all those Sinful Colors polishes). I was pretty excited about getting them for her, too. By the time I had mailed out all the ones to my out-of-town friends, there wasn’t a single one left for my cousin. I am completely baffled by this because I had calculated beforehand how many I would need. I should have ordered a few more for good measure. She will read this now and pretty much NOT be surprised at my absent-mindedness. I sort of have this reputation with my family as being scatter-brained and difficult to rely on.

I love the color. The burgundy is a lot more obvious when viewed in person. However, the formula is too thick, making it difficult to apply a nice even layer. I end up putting too much on at a time. If I go thinner, it’s too uneven and streaky. Looks like it’s time for me to look into nail polish thinner.

Oh, I love how this looks with the Essie Matte About You over it. This is warm, velvet love right here. Unfortunately, because the Shades of Dark was applied so thickly, my nails got ruined really fast because it took way too long to dry. Right now, my nails are a huge mess.

I’ve been pulling out my Wacom to do a new Holy Crap only to sit staring for hours at a blank page. Believe me, I want to revive this comic strip more than anyone wants to see it but I appear to have the worst case of artist’s block. We found a nice little tea place that offers free wi-fi in our new neighborhood, so maybe the new setting might help get the creative juices flowing. I’m deeply touched that you guys still ask about it, even though there have only been about five episodes drawn to date. When I first posted that, I didn’t think the responses would be so good.
I have a daytime EOTD tutorial scheduled for this coming Sunday, so stay tuned!
I am alienman. Writing a small blurb about myself is the hardest thing to do. "Blurb" is a funny word.

I always want to try Finger Paints but the size of the bottles scare me. I will never finish it, regardless how much painting I do (unless I use it to paint a car or something.) That Matte about You looks lovely but Essie is really really expensive.
I’ve still been looking for that Matte Essie in this one chain store, because if I buy it there I can get points that lead me to more ‘free’ stuff later on…unfortunately the ones I go to don’t seem to carry them :T but one day…
One day I will do nuts and mattify all the lovely colours I have with it.
Actually was going to buy some Zoya Mattes cause they were on sale, but saw and read some posts on it, and seeing as I do a lot of work with my hands, figured they wouldn’t last very long.
How is the wear of Essie on you?
Anyway, take your time on Holy Crap~
We will just appreciate it more when it is released right
LOL SELFISH!! Haha!!!
It looks more black, but still very nice! Can’t wait for the new HOLY CRAP! My fave is still the brazillian wax episode! LOL!
oooooh, laydayyyyy. that is a mighty fine color, and the matte glaze is also tempting. i think i might go out and buy some soon. i love how i googled “matte nail glaze” and the first result was “MANGLAZE” loolollo.
i’ll be looking forward to your EOTD tut (and comic)!
trish: lol ORLY actually calls their matte glaze “topcoat for men”. Manglaze sounds like…. something naughty and delicious that I would buy to use on my guy 6.6;;;
wuzzy: even in person, it looks almost black. i love this color so much but i wish it weren’t so “goopy”, as May would call it
rasilla: as a “topcoat”, Matte About You utterly fails. I haven’t tried other matte glazes but i’m assuming none of them have lasting power nor protect the colors very well.
Because of moisturizers and your body’s natural oil, the matte finish will start getting greasy and shiny, so you can’t wear it for more than a couple of days. It also chips easily. However, I’ve heard it does mattify better than other brands. I haven’t tried other brands, though.
Dao: yea, it’s ten bucks :/ It’s the only Essie product I’ve tried and own. I just can’t justify spending so much on their nail polish when I could get awesome brands like Sinful Colors or China Glaze for so cheap. I got Matte About You because I wanted the versatility of having two textures of one color and it seems that Essie’s matte glaze does a better job of mattifying than others.
I love Essie products, I think they’re much better than OPI. I love the dark purple color it’s kinda gothic looking but still very chic
Ahh, thick nail polish -_-; I need some thinner too. I love the matte! Thanks for your comment :3 Your bewbs give me pervy nosebleeds too. MOAR TITTY! XD
Aww, I had a lot of the chrome shadows in my cart before I took items out
I hope this glitter doesn’t suck T___T
hope the new surroundings will help you get through your artist’s block – I dealt with a bit of designer’s block but I’m trying to work my way through it and just doodle designs/ideas onto paper.
looove the color – that’s a shame the formula is no bueno. My go-to vampy wine shade is Revlon’s Vixen – blood red creme, but the bottle I have is old. I think I’ll have to revive it with nail polish thinner as well. I heard that if you want the matte top coat but hate the way it shortens nailwear, you can use a regular topcoat (Seche Vite, Sally, whatever brand of glossy topcoat you like) and once that dries, use the matte top coat. This is all in theory, but it might help reduce chippage? If I try it when I redo my nails I’ll report back
mayaari: Whoa. I considered applying seche vite before the matte glaze but I never tried it bc I didn’t think it’d work? I’ll have to try it, too. Let me know if it works for you! And here’s to overcoming artists’ block together!
ect: hahahaha “moar titty” omg you are always so cute >.< I haven't tried nyx glitter but has anything by nyx ever really been bad?
olive: yea! i love the goth chic look of this np! I just wish it weren't so thick >.<
