Honestly, Im so glad there's people out there that agree with me. Truly I don't understand, why is whether you wear or don't wear makeup mens' problem anyway? I've had atleast two guys tell me that I should stop wearing make-up (clearly they prefer make-upless) but then they are still the ones that are hitting on me and want my number. Why can't they understand that women mostly wear make-up to look presentable and just cause it makes a lady feel more comfortable and confident. Well that's my reason for wearing make-up- it covers my uneven skin and blemishes and after its been applied I feel much more at ease. I think I wear very little make-up (just light foundation, a little blush, eyeliner and mascara) so little, that you can't even see it in my pictures and when guys like these tell me that I wear too much make-up it starts to freak me out and I feel self-conscious. The paradox though is that they can't resist telling me how beautiful they think I am- so then what is the problem. Why can't they appreciate a beautiful looking women and not have to comment on every little thing about her. We don't go around telling guys they look to skinny and should get some shaping here and there, if we go for you its because we liked you like that in the first place. Men are so picky its ridiculous. And just so they can know, Im NOT going to stop wearing my make-up :)

Oh, this is so funny. The other night I met the girlfriend of a colleague of mine, who, he swears, wears no makeup whatsoever! Well, he needs new glasses. She was covered in goopy foundation, had eyeliner on and mascara as well as lippy and lipliner and blush!

Today, because I've just had lasik eye surgery, I didn't wear eye make up to work, but I put on everything else, including a very deceptive little lip stain thing so that when the top lippy wore off, I still had the rosey glow of an 18 year old.

I was told I 'look so much better without makeup'. Duh....no glasses....duh....plenty of makeup, boys, you don't know what you're looking for. I just said 'well, this is me, au naturel! Ha hahahaha. Gotcha

Most men don't like make-up at all. I think women look much better not close to natural, but actually natural. I mean if you wear make-up to look like you, then there is no point in wearing it.

I totally agree with what you wrote there.
I really, -really-, really hate the media.

Anyways, I wear makeup to hide my pimples, scars and redness around my face. It's a pain in the butt on top of my dry skin ;-;

I don't comment much, but I wanted to say that I enjoy reading your blog especially your holy crap comics ^_^b

Men are delusional. I don't know why women persist in acting shocked when they read moronic news stories about men's general preference for "non-obvious" makeup. It seems to me that it comes down to one simple observation: men don't have the slightest clue whether you've put a particular product on your face unless you've done so heavily or without proper skill. They can jabber on about disliking women who wear makeup as much as they want, but we know the truth. The vast majority of purportedly "au naturel" women they prefer are, in fact, wearing makeup.

I'm with you: this has been overhyped and overreported to the point of absurdity. Men are idiots where cosmetics and fashion are concerned. Women need to stop dwelling on their inconsequential opinions and have some damn fun.

Thanks, bonnie! I have a lot of scarring, too, and I definitely feel like the scars are more noticeable than any other part of my face. Sometimes, I only want to cover the scars so people see ME and not my scars. I'm always happy to see new names commenting on GoldfishCake, so welcome and thank you for coming :D

I remember reading some magazine once--it was either Cosmopolitan (ech) or Glamour--where they did a poll using three pictures of the same model wearing "light," "medium," and "heavy" makeup. No surprise, the men liked the model wearing the "heavy" makeup the most. Some of them couldn't even tell that it was the same model. I think the key is that men profess to not like "heavy" makeup if it's "obviously heavy" makeup (I think I've exceeded my quotation quota for the day); most of them don't know how much work goes into any level of makeup anyway, so if they can figure out you're wearing any makeup at all, then that's too much to them. There are few women in the world who are so blessed that they can turn heads when they don't wear any makeup at all. I'm not one of them. But I don't wear makeup to turn heads.

I do think that women wear makeup for men in a different way than most people think--it's not that we're trying to attract them, but we are trying to be attractive. Unsurprisingly, attractive people tend to get things more easily than unattractive people. Although this goes for men as well as women, women are expected to be attractive in a much more demanding way than men are, and some amount of makeup is usually required in order for women to avoid unattractiveness. It's far easier for an unattractive women to be dismissed as a serious contender for higher career placement than an unattractive man--hence, we shoot for attractiveness. Still, as women, we dance a very fine line between being "too girly" and "too manly" in workplace politics; makeup helps avoid the "too manly" (unattractive) pigeonhole, but too much makeup might hurt one's reputation rather than help. So there's kind of a bell curve of makeup that the majority of society (and men) judge women by--too little is unattractive; too much to the point of obviousness is just as unattractive.

So that's what I think about wearing makeup, but mostly I personally wear makeup because it's fun! Personally, I feel really satisfied after I put makeup on, much in the same way that I feel really satisfied after I put together a nice outfit, write, read a good book, draw a good picture, run in the rain, solve a puzzle, or finally figure out what it was that I had forgotten. It's like something clicks into place in my head. My makeup and clothing tend to reflect the way I feel, but it's not like I get bummed out if I'm not wearing something nice--I just couldn't be bothered to put something nice on that day, that's all. Either that or I'm back in my suits-only environment, which is, alas, not the best place for expression anyway.

Ever since Denis went off to Georgia I've been rocking more makeup XD

He lightened up on his original "ew yuck makeup!" stance, but even then I tended to keep things really natural/neutral. These last couple of days I've been working on perfecting my smoky cat eye, and he's not around to do anything about it :D :D :D

I'm still too lazy to put makeup on on weekends, though.
