Hell, yea. Bacon! The most Christmas-relevant thing to talk about! Ok, no. No, it’s not.
… Hell, yea. Bacon!
I used to think of bacon as a guilty pleasure. I always considered it one of those poor quality junk foods that satisfy cravings but have little else to offer. Like Spam.
This past year, the boyfriend and I have been making more of a conscious effort to buy local pasture-raised meat from the butcher, as opposed to going to a supermarket. By “conscious effort”, I mean we went there like twice. In our defense, we haven’t been cooking meat at home all that much.
I deleted my lengthy and boring paragraph about how great pasture-raised free range meat is. Let me just tell you about the bacon.
This is our first time buying bacon from a butcher shop. We couldn’t help it. We were there to buy roast beef for our Christmas dinner but the peppered bacon was invitingly displayed in the glass. I was wistfully thinking, “I wanna try that bacon,” when the boyfriend turned around and said, “Wanna get some bacon?”

They were out of plain bacon but had these peppered ones. All of the seasoning was done by the butchers.

I was initially worried we'd end up with soggy bacon, which I don't like very much. I like my bacon super crispy.

There was nothing soggy about this. The result was The Perfect Bacon. Thick and crispy with a FLOOD of great taste in every bite.
I had no idea bacon could taste this good and I love bacon. I actually RESENTED the holidays because stores were closed and I couldn’t go out and buy more bacon. I call this Bacon of the Gods. Holy crap. I seriously cannot get over how good it was. It was like getting punched in the mouth with AWESOMENESS. If pure gold were edible, it would taste like this bacon.

The colors look different because we used two different cameras to take the pictures. What a beaut. It's just screaming, WORSHIP ME I AM THE BACON.

They were so thick and crispy that you could throw them like boomerangs... and waste the Best Bacon Ever. You really should just eat it.
Once I took my first bite of this bacon, I knew we could never buy bacon at a supermarket ever again. Not after this. Those prepackaged flimsy strips of lard are a complete joke compared to what the butcher cuts.

Paired with Alienman's Special Spinach-Feta Scramble. The sheer om-nom-nomness of this breakfast made angels sing.

You’re absolutely right about getting the RIGHT bacon..it makes ALL the difference! The other half LOVES American bacon like you cooked in your post, but the bacon in the UK is most popularly the “Canadian” type…so we don’t eat bacon in the UK!
Hope you had a great Christmas!
lol
dunno what this canadian type is. will have to look into that.
but meat in general, when bought from a local butcher is SOOO different. its kind of like how I don’t understand how people can eat hot dogs/wieners, when thick meaty italian sausages are the best! lol oh meat, how I adore you. (hope peta doesn’t come after me :T) anyway the peppered bacon looks delicious!~
actually everything look delicious. I might have just licked my screen while reading this post…screw smell-o-vision, I want taste-o-vision
i’m literally drooling.. i’ve always wanted to buy from a local butcher shop, but there are none around here (to my knowledge). i must look for a farm or butcher closeby the campus at least.. mmm thanks for this dericious poast!
Oh man….I want some of that, like right now. My family always has a potluck style Christmas every year, and for some reason, there is always a giant plate full of bacon. o_O
LOL! I love how this entry is dedicated to the bacon. XD It must be some really good bacon. It looks pretty appetizing with the seasoning on it. And also, you and your boyfriend are connected telepathically or something. How else would he know to ask about the bacon just as you were thinking about it? ^_^
Dude that bacon looks toooooo good!! And so does your eggs!! That’s it you need to cook this breakfast for me! I’m DEMANDING IT!! lol!
Hey Spam has uses! LOL!
Oh em gee..stop it with the bacon..it looks so good…was that your breakfeast? holy crap! Looks good, hehe..
How did you make the spinach scrambled eggs? Recipe? I call this beauty food!
Merry belated xmas!<3 Yummmm, bacon! I usually only eat turkey bacon XD But REAL bacon looks 21093854891740x more delicious ^^
omg. I love bacon; I have to try fresh bacon from a butcher now!
Bacon in Japan is kind of different; I have trouble getting it to be crispy. But butchers are pretty common; people here like their meat fresh. Obviously I need to be checking out the bacon more.
I’m not a fan of bacon, but this really looks yum!!!
loves
kuri: Yea, every Korean neighborhood has a butcher, too. Not sure if they provide organic, though. I was surprised at how different the bacon was! We went to the butcher shop to get more but they were closed T_T
ann: Just for you, I’ll post a recipe of the eggs soon
HA! I SCOFF at Canadian bacon! It’s more like ham! *ends obnoxious American mode* LOL Sorry, I had to get that out of my system. You may now spank me. *bends over and looks over with a perverted look on my face*
