OMG, i would love this. When I was 13, I had the usual teen breakouts but then as I got older, they stopped and I had nice skin.. of course with the athletic things in school and I was in a sport each semester so I was always active and healthy.. i have posted last semester, my third year in college, how I just started to break out with cystic acne! I was sooo sad and it changed my life> It made me feel ugly and hopeless. FOr some reason, it has died down but I am dealing with acne scarring now and my skin can never go back to clear and smooth without the help of primer… anyway, this is why i’d like it. to preven future breakouts!

omg a memory test for someone with the worst memory ever? geesh well here goes! I remember u being one of the earliest monolid bloggers.. which was why i latched on to you and never let go mwahahahaha! And you had these looks with falsies which u pulled them off so well that I brought some from u! And u packed them so awesomely with your ADORABLE xmas card that I still have (my preeeeecious xD) and sparkly tissue paper!

What I’d like to see more of here is YOU blogging! U have a way of writing that’s funny and enjoyable to read so whether it’s life, make up, reviews, or bella, readers will be tuning in! Actually, if I had to pick one thing I’d like to see more are your nail reviews. They’re always so pretty… *-*

As for why I’d like to try Perricone, I’ve always had a problem with acne… and subsequently scarring. It did improve with I took antibiotics and duac and differin.. but once i stopped the antibiotic, my acne came back despite me continuing to use the other 2. So now i’m back on antibiotics… my current skin regiment is cetaphil cleanser, and merlot grapeseed moisterizer with duac AM and differin PM. I’m happy enough with them because they don’t give me new break outs but they don’t solve the problem. I’m taking a tetracycline antibiotic that i can’t recall the name of… I still *do* get break outs but it’s muuuuuch controlled. >.< :sigh: I just wanna stop them for good!!

Hi! I’m living here in the U.S. and I’m actually a long time reader but this is my first time commenting…I think. It’s been that long. ^_^; Well, I thought I should give this a try, so here goes!

I’ve been living with acne for years with some scarring. In the beginning I’ve tried the usual drugstore acne products like Neutrogena and Clean and Clear but the Neutrogena made me break out even more and the Clean and Clear stopped working half-way through the tube. Then my mom introduced me to a sample of a facial soap from a Korean beauty shop she always goes to. The soap was yellowish/green in color and my mom said the lady had told her it was made from onions. It didn’t stink and it just had a sharp, spicy smell to it. I thought it was interesting and gave it a go. It worked pretty well with some minor stinging (which I didn’t mind. My mom’s motto is: If it burns, it’s working! lol). But we ran out of the sample fast and we couldn’t afford the actual soap (I can’t remember the actual price but I remember it was really expensive). So next, I tried Proactive and it was great!…for a while. Like other acne products I’ve used before it, it stopped working. Then I tried AcneFree, which worked just like Proactive but of course, ended up not working again. So now I’m using a charcoal facial soap my mom bought but I’m also sharing it with her and my sister. It works really well and I’m satisfied with it for now. I just lather it on, keep it on for about a minute or two (It stings a little at first) and wash it off. It dries out the skin so I just put some Aveeno moisturizer on. So far, my acne and some scarring have begun to fade gradually and I’m hoping it lasts this time but sharing it between all the women in this house means that we’ll be running through it in no time. I’m always searching and trying new products to fight my acne, especially now since I’m starting to become more interested in skin care.

As for my fondest memory of your blog, I remember discovering you by searching for monolid makeup tutorials on Google. A few years ago as a freshman in college, I was going through this huge makeup craze phase but I didn’t know how to apply makeup to my monolid eyes. The makeup tutorials I usually saw all seemed to work best on people with double eyelids. Then I discovered monolid tutorials but many of them required stuff like eyelid glue and even their tutorials didn’t seem to be right for my type of monolid eyes. When I discovered your blog, I was hooked. I still come back every once in a while to look at your updates and re-read your older entries. Your tutorials gave me some great tips and techniques and it was perfect because I kind of have a face shape and eyes similar to yours. Your eyelash tutorials even got me hooked on falsies and of course I relied on them to help me try on my first set of eyelashes. I also went through a NYX eyeshadow and lippy phase because of your tutorials and haul reviews! haha!

As for what I’d like to see more of is more makeup tutorials and reviews on skin care products! Ooh, and maybe some reviews and tutorials on hair products too?

(I’m reading over what I wrote and I sound soooo stalkerish. Sorry. And I think I just wrote an essay! >_<;;; Well, that's it for now. Hope to see more tutorials and contests from you!)

oh, darling alienman. i can always count on you and your blog to entertain me and teach me something new! i’m almost late for a dental appointment but i cant… look… away..

i just wanted to post about my earliest memory (and i guess i’ll enter the contest while i’m at it!). well, i’ve always had some acne issues, contrary to what my forgiving photobooth pics would tell you ;) i easily break out, whether i’m stressed or completely fine. widespread whiteheads are probably my most immediate issue, concentrated around the nose, on my cheeks and on my chin (wtf? >:[). when i get pimples, they’re usually pustules and sometimes nodules. Nodules have left impacts in the past, such as one on my nose that has been there for about 3 years, and it just look like a raised lump. Not only does acne itself negatively impact my self esteem (duh), but sometimes even my family brings it up. mainly, my paternal grandmother who lives with us. she points them out, prodding at my face, telling me i have horrible skin, asking why it’s like that, laughing. how humiliating -_- and at the DINNER TABLE, too! anyway, i’ve tried all of your drugstore brands, products and regiments: every facewash and mild astringent from clean&clear, clearasil, biore, neutrogena, etc. i also tried proactiv in the past, and after 3-4 months of proper usage, i saw no change or results. right now, i’m using clean and clear face wash and acne-preventing moisturizer, both of which feel good on my skin and keep my face clean, but they don’t affect my acne too much either way. even though my acne may not be as bad as others’, it’s still an issue for me and my mom even insisted on sending me to a dermatologist with money we don’t have. obviously i refuse.

now on to the more important part! my earliest memory of gfc was your monolid tutorials.. i have sohk-ssangapul, and sometimes they are visible, but your monolid makeup tutorials could still apply to myself and my azzznnn friends (who ask me to do their makeup)! i was excited to have found your realistic but creative tips. my sister’s completely monolidded too, and Lord knows she needs help with her makeup application (centimeter thick black eyeliner, glitter liquid liner/goop on top of that, 10 coats of mascara that takes her literally 5 minutes straight to apply, etc). you’ve helped her improve too :) but yes, monolid tuts and bella are my initial memories of your site. and of course your forum EOTDs and such hehe ;) i’d love to see more of your crazy/costume-esque makeup posts, and more o’ dis: http://files.posterous.com/goldfishcake/HI5GMH6dqkBhkkM7Azx6q2AroIsqDdm5XUCytBwTHwbwzC1HdVfxhw3aipEP/Media_CardBlackBerrypicturesIM.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=1C9REJR1EMRZ83Q7QRG2&Expires=1261406087&Signature=T19W0I9GHmIAnLFBOAGGvS%2B4xU8%3D

:B so thank you for always making your site a good time, and letting us into your life, makeup and personal. now time to go to my dentist unshowered @_@ AHAAHHAHA BYE!

    Dear Alienman,

I wrote a long reply to participate in this giveaway and boom, it went away. So here it is, my 2nd attempt:

WHY you need a product like this for your skin-health needs, WHAT you have tried and whether they’ve worked.

Pretty soon, I will reach the big 3-0 milestone and right now, I still have zits in my late 20s. I started having zits since I was 12, which means the years I have acne outshine the years I did not. Therefore, I wish a zit free future for myself and my skin.

What I have tried? Let’s put it this way: what I haven’t tried. I have tried pretty much everything under the sun ever since I started having my first zit: ProActiv, which worked very fast but stopped working very soon; PanOxy, which is very horrible; Stridex gel and pads, which worked but also left me a tingling sensation on my skin; Chinese herbal medicine- part 1, Neutrogena and lots of it, Clean and Clear gel, Clinique, Shiseido, Korean brand skincare for acne, Chinese herbal medicine-part 2, Aveda Inner Peace, which works but also is very expensive, more Neutrogena, Clearasilk, drugstore version of ProActiv but in gel form, Mario Badescu, which smelled like burned tires, and many many other zit products that failed me. Oh, one more: the aspirin mask, which is a lifesaver for emergency situations.

For TWO additional entries, tell me: “What are your earliest memories of GoldfishCake and what more do you look forward to seeing here?”

My earliest GFC memory was when you blogged at Blogger. I bumped into your blog by accident and my initial reaction was, “Who is this girl and why did she rock some awesome makeup?” Sincerely, I did not know or see any monolid girls who wore makeup as proud as you did. The more I read your blog, the more I got attached to it and some days I did not feel like smiling, your entries kept me laughing. Then, I started my own blog and you were very kind to exchange link with me. And the rest of the story, you already knew ;)

For the future, I hope you will still blogging your Alienman behind out. You don’t have to blog about makeup if you don’t want to and I will still be here for you.

I have breakouts all the time! You know me and my oily skin too! LOL! But I’d love to try out a new product!

My earliest memory of Goldfishcake? Hrmmm…. I’m gonna say Alienman not Goldfishcake… so this might be void! but my finding my sexy Twin on ABB and Tomo’s twin Bella was one of the highlights of my LIFE! No lie!! I’m so glad that I’ve been able to get to know you, even if it is only online! :D

Hope you and the man, & Bella have a great Holiday season! :)

hi alienman! thanks for holding this giveaway for your readers! i would love to win this product because like many others i’ve been battling persistent acne since my teens. the worst part is that the acne has consistently gotten worse instead of better! in my early 20s i broke out in cystic acne all over the lower half of my face. the hit to my self esteem was exactly like what others have mentioned. i hid my face from the world, didn’t want to go out, felt like everyone was staring at my scars and became more and more introverted. the fact that none of the products i tried had any affect only exacerbated the situation. i tried topical creams (retin A and prescription strength benzoyl peroxide), every kind of bha and aha, oral antibiotics (doxycycline) and even changed my diet to cut out any processed foods, nuts, sugars and upped my intake of omega 3s, zinc and veggies. i felt like i was being betrayed by my own body and it all felt so hopeless. finally i gave in and went on birth control, yaz, to treat the acne and like magic it got better within the first 2 months. i’ve been on yaz for almost 2 years now and i realized i’ve gotten myself into a neverending cycle. i’m scared to death of going off of yaz for fear of the acne coming back, but for other health reasons i truly believe giving up birth control is key. i hope that this product will give me the courage to stop taking birth control and this sounds incredibly corny, but to also regain control of my life.

as for my first memories of goldfishcake, i remember following you on asianbeautyblog, but the posts that stuck with me always involved your artwork. i loved the beautiful cards you drew and there was even one post where you made these little figurines and baked them. i hope you will do more posts showcasing your artwork. i truly believe the creativity of others is what causes your own creativity to develop and expand. here’s to another wonderful year for goldfishcake!

I need this because dry skin actually wreaks havoc on my skin!!!! It gets dry, causing excess oil to form and it’s a disaster. I’ve tried all those topical cream things and they aren’t a permanent solution.

Well, I need this kit because I have a hard time getting rid of my acne. I’ve pretty much tried everything under the sun and it has not cleared my skin. I had nice, clear skin up until probably junior year in high school. Then I developed cystic acne on my forehead, then on my cheeks and chin. Ugh. Five years later I’m still battling the demon acne! I hate going out in public because I think people are always looking at my acne. My family members always point it out when they see me. They ask me why my acne is so bad. They also ask me why I’ve gained so much weight but that’s beside the point.

I’ve tried Pro-Active, which did not work and dried up my skin. I’ve tried just about every drugstore product (clean and clear, oxy clean, etc.) all which have failed. I tried getting facials every 2 weeks, which helped but did not clear my face. I went to the dermatologist and had meds prescribed and tried that for four months and that helped but didn’t clear my face. I’ve tried Retin-A, Duac, some topical treatment prescribed by a doctor in Hong Kong, DDF, Peter Thomas Roth, masks, and other products which I don’t remember the name anymore. Sometimes products work but not for long. There’s something wrong with my face!

  13. Nadine

OMG, I tried so many drugstore products for a year or two before I was able to get a dermatologist appt. (I had to book a year in advance — ridiculous.) I even tried Proactiv and used it religiously, and it didn’t improve my acne. What finally helped was going to the derm and I still don’t have the clear skin that I seek. I’ve been on a Rx topical retinoid and Rx topical antibiotic for almost 3 years and I *still* have moderate acne. I break out all the time but it’s the worst the week before my period. My skin was clearest when I was also on an oral antibiotic but my derm took me off it after 5 months because it’s not healthy to continually ingest an oral antibiotic. Although I would rather not go on birth control and/or spironolactone for my acne, I might eventually pursue those routes. (Yaz seems to be the pill favored by derms.) I wouldn’t mind the inflammation if not for the post-inflammatory pigmentation that lasts for months. (Yup, the pigmentation bothers me much more than the inflammation.) I’m all for trying any products that can help control my acne!

I need this kit because I have suffered and continue to suffer with severe acne. I have had acne since I was 12. It only got worse as I got into my twenties. My acne tends to be concentrated around my chin and around my mouth and my nose area which are pretty much out there for everyone to see. I have tried every product that you can buy in a drug store such as Neutragena, clerasil, Aveno, Oxyclean, etc. I’ve tried Proactive & Estee Lauder skin care products too. I’ve taken antibiotics (doxycycline) and topical Retinol. When I was in my late 20s, I saw a dermatologist and I used the products that he gave me (can’t remember the name of product) I also had a peel done which was very painful and took awhile to heal. Nothing has worked for me and I continued to have acne in my 30s and now at 41 I still have acne except now I starting also to get the fine lines so I’m worried about moisturizing because all of these acne products just dry my skin out. Years of acne has left my skin scared and pigmented. Having such severe acne has really affected my self esteem too, especially when I was younger. I always feel like I have to cake on alot of heavy foundation and powder to cover my skin’s flaws. I sure would love to find a product that works to control my acne and possibly help to reverse some of the scarring and pigmentation. It is very hard to be 41 and still have such horrible acne. I really need some help with this. At times my acne is so bad, I wish I could just hide my face from the world and not go to work or the store or anywhere.

I need products like this because I’m dealing with some really stubborn adult acne now – pimples show up in the same area and take even longer to go away, and the scars aren’t fading as fast as they used to either…so I’m nearing my wit’s end trying to find something that will improve my skin again. What haven’t I tried? Drugstore pimple/zit creams (worked when I was younger, far too drying on me now), acne washes/toners (hit or miss with most products; if it works, it tends not to work as well when I repurchase), Proactiv (didn’t work at all), Mario Badescu (buffering lotion works on cystic pimples, but only if I notice them soon enough), even had some prescription medication from a dermatologist when I was a teenager for acne on my back (left keloids on my shoulders) and face (skin treatment worked to get rid of pimples, but made my skin dry and flaky). So far, the only combination that sort of helps is using a DDF sulfur mask 1-2x a week (and leaving spot treatments of it on overnight) and using Nexcare acne patches on pimples that have whiteheads, but I’d rather find something that could help prevent pimples from appearing in the first place.

My earliest memories of alienman/goldfishcake are not too long after I started blogging 2 years ago…found your site after clicking links from someone else’s site, and started reading your posts regularly. I think I still have your tutorial on how to apply false lashes “starred” in my reader for future reference :) aaand I remember you sending me your extra Silk Naturals foundation, though I’ve stopped using it as of late, and how adorable your holiday cards were (so cute that I’m keeping one for myself!). I’d love to see you blog more period – and exclamation point! Your writing style is very natural to read across the screen, and your self-depracating humor always manages to make me smile, though your writing or through an odd photo :) and I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing some of your comics making an appearance here to there =P I don’t know how much time goes into making those, but you’ve got one fan here!

I’ve always had some problems with acne ever since my early teens (I’m in my mid/late 20s now) and my outbreaks get so much worse when I’m under stress. I’m still in school so it usually happens during final exams. When my skin looks bad I feel much worse so its kind of hard to focus! I’ve tried many products and right now the Boscia purifying cleansing gel is my favorite, its a bit pricey so I sometimes opt for the Olay Total Effects cream cleanser which is great for dealing with blackheads.

  17. peach

I’ve had your website bookmarked, but to be honest I haven’t been checking up on any blogs very frequently in the past year. I just subscribed via RSS so hopefully I’ll be able to check up here more often. I do recall you posting about school in the past and right now I’m finishing up my final term at the university as well. I totally relate to all your school woes, but I’m super happy for you that you’ve finished up now, congrats! I’m feeling totally excited/worried/apprehensive/happy about finishing up myself. Also, I love your FOTD posts!

Thank you so much for the giveaway as well, Perricone is really great but I have never tried any of their cleansers. Keeping my fingers crossed!
