January 17th was our 28th mensiversary. Twenty-eight months! Who would have thought I’d still be happily snuggled into a relationship with the same wonderful man after twenty-eight months!
I guess it’s not as “significant” as an anniversary or even a semi-anniversary. However, I am delighted that the boyfriend wishes to make each month count. He had been rather regretful that we had let these months slip past without celebrating each 17th, so he proposed that we put in more efforts to reserve at least one date night per month, namely on the 17th. This is because we became an official couple on September 17th, two years ago.
Two years!!!! We still exclaim, “Two years!” partly because we wish to emphasize the intimacy of our relationship and partly because we both find it incredible. I think I find it even more incredible than he seems to. From the beginning of our relationship, he always seemed to expect us to be together for a very long time. It was pretty creepy, actually.
Just kidding. I thought he was being naive and silly. Two years and four months later, I stand corrected.
I still remember when we had first started dating. Neither of us could follow that well-known three-day rule, that requires you to wait three dates to call after a date. No, we were seeing each other practically every single day because we we hooked on each other’s company.
We even shopped at Target together… except, there was that one time. This was when no one in my family knew about him, yet. He and I were crossing the parking lot to get to the entrance when I spotted my cousin, her husband and her kids walking just ahead of us. My reflexes kicked in and I immediately dove behind a white truck, leaving the poor soon-to-be boyfriend standing alone and looking confused. We had to cancel Target that night. To this day, he never stops making fun of me about this incident.
Well, now, my family knows about him and they’ve accepted him. So, I get to enjoy trips and dates with him with a clear conscience. It’s so liberating to be able to love and express love without feeling guilty about it.
This past weekend was the weekend of our 28th mensiversary (I finally took the time to find this word because it didn’t make sense to call it “monthly anniversary” when I knew so well that “anniversary” could only be annual). Friday was spent gorging on hot wings and lots of alcohol. Saturday was spent on a 1050-calorie hike with the boyfriend and my brother (we’re doing okay, thank you). Sunday and Monday were spent by the beaches of Florence. That hike is not going to cover half of the ugly gluttony of this past weekend.

Don’t worry people always make fun of me and my bf for celebrating every single month. I’ve had people call us crazy for seeing each other every single day too!! 
Congrats on the two years! Haha what do you call your “mensiversary” each month? The bf and I had a discussion after we passed the 1 year mark because I had trouble counting past 12 LOL… so now we do the point system, for example this month is our 3.7 which translates to three years 7 months! Haha I get made fun of for this too. Oh wells! Hope you and the bf have a great time celebrating! You two are just way too cute

That is SO adorable! You’re so lucky that your family approves of him :] My honey and I used to celebrate every month, but it’s much harder now, since we’re doing long distance… We never followed the 3 day rule either. We were best friends anyway so it was weird if we didn’t see each other every day
But I guess we’re a weird case anyway, lol
Don’t be embarrassed by celebrating every single month! Jamal and I have been together for 13 years and we still appreciate each other every day! It’s nice to be a team and have a soulmate.

lol @ the Target story. I heard somewhere that if you and your significant other can go to Target together and emerge alive and happy — your relationship is golden. It’s like one of those “big steps” in a relationship.

haha it’s one of my pet peeves as well when people call in anniversary when it’s only been like 3 mos or so… but i tend to just call it monthiversary. ahahha
