I use the sudsy Cetaphil and it works amazingly. The one that's more like a lotion is alrigtht for keeping my skin soft but the more soapy one always takes all of my make up off and keeps my breakouts to a minimum.

Someone mentioned they mix Cetaphil with baking soda to exfoliate. This is a wonderful new acne treatment I have discovered lately! (Use any cleanser, or just water.) I don't know what it does but soaking baking soda on my skin for 5 minutes, 2 or 3 times a week stops the zits (or at least slows them.) I also do a second wash afterward because it's so extremely alkaline. Then I use a very diluted vinegar toner to bring the PH back to neutral and stop any chance of burning and dryness.

Warning: Do not leave it on too long! It will burn your skin! However, you quickly become accustom to it and can tolerate more time. You can also try a weaker solution but I'm too lazy to measure. I just dump it in my hand and make a paste.

I also use baking soda mixed with my shower gel for back/chest acne. It can be good with shampoo for scalp conditions too. The hormone condition that causes excess sebum, and acne, can also cause hair thinning. My hair has stopped shedding like a dog in the summer time now! It is terrible on hair color and shine though. I also rinse exclusively with cold water.

Again, I neutralize all of this with a weak vinegar/water solution in a spray bottle -- maybe 1:5 or 1:10 proportions.

You don't state how you know it's not removing dirt and makeup? I love Cetaphil. Since most of you use cleansing oil, I am surprised you don't realize that wiping it off with a tissue, after massing it in for a minute, will pretty much get anything off. My face also feels very exfoliated when doing it this way. My test is this Silver Powder mask by Mario Badescu. It won't come off for nothing, and you can see the white in your pores if you look closely. Rub some Cetaphil into it, wipe it off, and Voila!

I rinse with water after wiping it off, though, because I just don't trust the left overs. Pretty much anything except pure oil will break me out. But I do take care not to leave my face "tight and dry," especially the acne, which can scar if dried too badly. Most spot treatments make it even worse by burning it. (It's pure castor oil for me.)

XD I actually like Cetaphil. But I use it more like a toner replacement, and to wash my face in the morning. I remove my makeup with the oil cleansing method and then put Cethaphil on my face and tissue it off. It has been working much better than toners, and it makes my face soft.

I agree the Cetaphil isn't much on its own. I wash my makeup/dirt/oil off first with cleansing oil (actually, i just use virgin olive oil from the supermarket) and then wash that off with cetaphil~

P.S. I actually found your blog when researching about BB cream. Noticed you really like Silk Naturals so I am thinking of ordering the sample kit to try. What kind of coverage did you order?

Sorry this may not be the right post to ask but thought it will be easier for you to see.

Sounds like you are trying to find an "all-in-one" magic bottle? I use the Deep Cleansing Oil only at night (to remove the dirt accumulated through the day and makeup if I have on.) It really melts away any dirt on my face without the dry and harsh feeling (it also rinses off easily despite it's olive oil.) But I always follow up with a very gentle mild cleanser.
In the morning, I will use the mild cleanser only because there isn't much dirt while I sleep, just to wash off some excess oil and refresh my face.

I have never use any makeup remover alone without following up with a facial cleanser, and I am too scare to test it with my face, so I am not sure how that will work. :P

I love Cetaphil but I think it's best to pair it with DHC's Deep Cleaning Oil if you need to remove makeup. I have used more harsh cleanser before, including many targeted for acne skin, but I didn't stop breaking out until I used the Deep Cleaning Oil (makeup remover) + a very gentle cleanser. I have used Cetaphil, H2O+ Sea Mineral Cleanser, and Dermalogica's Ultracalming Cleanser. They are all great!
