bird photos and wtf nature is happenin

With the departure of winter deadness, spring came to life and, well, a lot of the time you’d find me wondering, “wtf is up with all the leaves, flowers and animals and all that nonsense?!” Seriously, everything was so quiet and so dead until about 2 months ago and my biggest excitement was when I saw an entire family of raccoons chilling in our balcony and, later, when I saw the same raccoons wander from house to house in the dead of night as if they were trick-or-treating. Now, the place is literally BUSTLING with life. It’s like I’m stuck in some Disney movie about some small scampering animals.

There are these big trees growing out of the neighbors’ backyard that’s right behind ours. Both trees lean towards our balcony and bedroom window, so I’m pretty sure we get a much better view of the blossoms than the neighbors do. Sucks to be them, having to prune and do all that lawn work while we sit back and enjoy their blooms and have someone else take care of our grass, har har.

So, for a few months, we got to enjoy these amazing cherry blossoms. One time, there was snow AND cherry blossoms. Then one day, I thought I heard a whole lot of “nature” nonsense going on outside and, sure enough, there was a bird doing mating calls. It’d do this for hours and for a week or so. I just assumed it didn’t get lucky (mebbe it’s a nerd-bird, HA) b/c I never recalled it getting a reply. At around the same time, I’d wake up every morning to some loud scampering sounds from the wall. I thought it was squirrels on the roof, at first, but it turned out to be birds building a nest. You can hear them from the bathroom. Every morning, Bella likes to go out there and bark at the birds.

Then, one day, a hummingbird decided to visit. I don’t know about you guys, but we don’t get to see a whole lot of hummingbirds, let alone take decent pictures of one. I wasn’t able to get a decent picture myself, but I was happy to get a picture at all.

It looked like a little red bumblebee. It never came back afterwards, so I was def. glad to have a picture.

Eventually, all the blossoms wilted off, leaving a pile of dead petals on the balcony. The next tree over blossomed right after and, while it’s not nearly as pretty, it’s still nice to see one tree blooming after another.

This morning, I woke up to a lot of shrill screaming of hungry birds. It wasn’t as pleasant as I’d expected it to be -_-

I came home from work to lounge on the balcony and I could see the open duct where the birds resided. I got pretty excited when I saw the little ones stick their heads out as they eagerly waited for their mother to return w/their food (yes, I get easily excited). I tried to get close pictures but a fast-moving momma bird is hard to capture and that hideous cover was in the way.

Even as I type and upload pictures, I can hear them screaming and chirping every time their mother flies over with a worm in her mouth.

WTH is taking so long? I’ve only been fed 80 times today. Am I not screaming and waking ppl up enough?

the bird pics are so cute! we had a stupid bird couple build a nest in our garage. for a few months, we’d open our garage door early and close it later to accomodate the mother.

so glad to see you’re enjoying nature around you.

[...] Fricken’ birds built another nest in the air duct last spring and we’ve been hearing their shrill cries since. [...]
