Desperate Want for New Hair

When I was in Korea, I used to get my hair done every three months. Part of the reason was that it never cost me more than $70 for a cut, color AND perm. Part of the reason was that I wanted to be well-groomed. The biggest part of the reason was probably that I didn’t want to be the only young lady in Korea with outgrown roots and frazzled ends.

Haircuts in the state of Oregon would always be a big risk because stylists never seemed to have a clue on how do deal with Asian hair. Even the Korean ladies seemed like they had started their salons with NO training whatsoever. I hear the situation’s been heavily upgraded up on Portland but, guess what, I’m in Eugene now. I felt like I would have to sit around between annual trips to Korea for any hair adventures.

And then I met Sarah T of I Run with Scissors. A few people had given her outstanding recommendations on Eugene’s local livejournal.com community and I had been long overdue for a haircut, so I thought I’d give her a try. Not only does she hook you up with all kinds of discounts – it’s almost like she’s just randomly making up discounts on the spot – but she really UNDERSTANDS my hair. She actually gave my hair the perfect shades of non-brassy but gorgeous browns and shaped my hair so flatteringly around my face.

Hmm… I don’t think I have a picture of that first haircut anywhere because that was during my worst “I feel fat” period.

A lot of you have seen her latest work on me, though.

I haven’t gone in for a haircut since, though. This is mainly b/c I have NO IDEA what to do and I still haven’t been able to get back into the habit of going in for a regular trim. It’s been way too long since my last cut and my roots have grown out way too long – it’s quite repulsive really.

I’m tempted to just go in there and tell Sarah that she can have her way w/me but I’m scared! I usually go in w/a photo of a hair model from dubaljayu.com but I haven’t found anything there that really grabs my attention. If anything DOES look intriguing, I can’t tell if it’s the hair I like or if it’s because the model is pretty T_T

What do you guys think??

I’ve been thinking about this style, but is it too much like other styles I’ve already done? I don’t care for the color, btw. I’ll probably get my hair dyed a few lighter shades of brown.

Some hairstyles in the past 10 years in no particular order but wow I look so young and fresh in some pix T_T:

Another Q:
Is it just me or do I look almost suspiciously different in some of these photos? I used to have people who’ve known me from high school etc… ask me if I had any work done and I can kind of see why now -_-;

I like your hair straight and with long side fringes (the first pic). If you’ve consistently liked what this Sarah T does, then it’s probably safe enough to trust her with the style and let her go wild (of course you could always ask her what she has in mind and see if you’re up for it).

You do look different in the last few pictures. But then again, I look different in each picture, even though some of them are taken like days apart only. :P Age, hair style, weight… all deciding factors in a look! ;)

I love your current hairstyle its gorgeous, but i also love your short perm/curls, you can totally pull it off, i tried it once and it looked like i had a mushroom head lol, you look so cute there :) .

I like you best with that shorter haircut with curls. ;)

I like the first pic, with the long bangs…and the hairstyle on that other site is cute as well, looks a bit shorter than the hairstyle in the first pic.

You definitely look different in the older pictures…I think your features changed a bit as you got older, so if someone didn’t see you for a while you’d look different from the way they remember you.

    dang…now I want long hair again…

I *LOOOOVE* your most recent hairstyle! I actually much prefer you with straight hair rather than your perm. Which is weird ‘cuz I love curls. I also like the link you put up although it’s similar to hair styles you’ve had before. But so why not go back to something if it worked so well for you? That hair style you picked, the short straight one, makes you look younger and fresh while the one Sarah T gave you looks more sophisticated and glam. Whichever you pick, you really can’t go wrong!

oooh, that color and style on you would look GORGEOUS!! definitely go for it.

it’s the “baby fat.” when you were younger, your cheeks were baby; as you’ve aged, you’re cheeks have become more defined. did that make sense??

and the eyebrows, especially those. your eyes look larger with thinner brows, i think.

I LOVE that cut with the bangs. I’m tempted to use that as inspiration for my next cut!

You do look different, but I think it’s just facial structures growing. Before I got my braces, I had a pumpkin round face, but now my face has narrowed out.

i can see what you mean, for some reason you look quite different when you had permed lighter hair compared with darker straighter hair.
that style you picked from Dubal Jayu is nice! i think i prefer darker hair colours on you though :)

AWww Alienman you look so baby cute in some of those older pictures <3 I too, like your most recent hair the most. I think you should keep your hair longer, it really flatters your face shape. I say keep the same hairstyle for a bit, but get another dye job for your growing roots. Can’t wait to hear what you decide on!

I agree with what you said about living in Korea. I loved that there were so many different salons that offered great services for super cheap! I used to get my hair done regularly, and it didn’t make a dent in my wallet. But back here in the States, I feel weary about trusting my hair to a stylist. And if I finally find a good stylist, they charge an arm and a leg, so I’m reluctant to get my hair often… to be honest, I just kind of gave up and had a random 4 inches chopped off my hair. I think that style you posted the link of is super cute. Go for it! :)

ah i understand your feeling about getting your hair done perfectly!!

I’ve gone to the same hairstylist since I was 10 and I am 22 now, so that’s a good 12 years. She’s so awesome! After so many appointments I just started trusting her to do whatev to my hair. Every time I went to her place I came home w/ new hairstyle. I love watching her working on my hair. The details to cut the perfect layers and everything can take up 30 mins or so. But it short of like a therapy to me.

I don’t like getting a haircut in the state b/c the hairstylist don’t know what to do w/ Asian features. I just had an appointment a week ago and the lady only took 10 mins to cut my hair. I didn’t even get to see how she worked from the mirror b/c she turned me around (u see what i mean?) I didn’t like it. grrr..

by the way, the pics are so cute!! Love ur hairstyles! esp. the curly one!!!

ah the 12 years is the place I’ve gone in Indonesia, sorry.

hi, it’s so great to see a fellow korean with the same problem. I usually go to toronto if I neeethin major done to my hair but it’s like a 6 hour drive.. anyways, i like the hairstyle that you linked and if you want to try something different, you could dye your hair in a completely different color.. or get like white highlights. just my thoughts though, so don’t take it too seriously.1

first pic is lovely! think you’d look good with layers too.
yeah i hate having haircuts actually.. too many trauma!! i liked having mine cut at japanese salons but the last time they got abit too scissors happy, i have to avoid that salon even tho they did a good job before.

Batman! You are soOoo purty! *drools*

Hm… You’re right. You DO look different. You’ve gotten pertier! I’m gonna join the We love Alienman with long hair and side fringes club. But it would be excellent to see you in something new. XD

Thanks for your comments and input, guys! I’ve made an appt for Friday morning and I might take the advice of the majority of you and go w/that picture. It’s either that or go with the same bangs from last time. Or should I keep looking??? ARGH Maybe I have no idea after all T_T

I like your most recent one as well. I love seeing pics of people years back. I think your face was a bit more round back then, your jawline is more defined now.
