I was lurking like swamp thang through (g)ezebel’s blog. She made a reference to an article that discussed the cosmetic benefits of Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel, which I, and many others, like to use as a foundation primer.
*edit* Just to clarify, it was not (g)ezebel who commited the plagiarism. It was someone else’s article she had found online.
As I scrolled through the article, something odd caught my eye. Here, let me show you.
The article. Take note of the quote at the very bottom that says, “I have spent too much on the fancy-shmancy Laura Merciers and the Dr. Brandts that don’t work as well as this $7 tube.” Notice they provide absolutely no citation whatsoever for this quote. For all we know, they could have made it up.
Or did they?

Okay, what’s going on here, people. Is it just a coincidence that someone else tried Laura Mercier and Dr. Brandts, AND compared it to Monistat?? AM I IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE?! ARE WE ALL JUST SHEEP REPEATING EACH OTHER’S THOUGHTS IN THE SAME EXACT SEQUENCE OF WORDS?!
No, I’m not mad or anything. I’m just kind of creeped out by this.

oh, thanks for the heads up. fixed it just now. I don’t know if they’ve done anything technically illegal here, since they DID use quotation marks. If they DID get this from me, though, they could have at least had the decency to let me know

Welp, guys, after that last e-mail, I never got a response, so I’m thinking I’ll contact hoobly.com and report the plagiarism to them :/ Not sure what they’d do about it, but I guess it’s better than just ignoring this problem.

Wow. I can’t stand the robbing of intellectual property. Even though it was just a snippet, it’s wrong. Doesn’t take a lot of effort to give credit when credit’s due.
I would take it as a compliment.
As for possible courses of action, there isn’t much you can do except ask them to reference you.
But yeah, it’s the internet, and if you’re being quoted, plagarized or copied, then you know you and your blog are doing something right.
