Coastal Scents Makeup Brushes

Here are my reviews on the brushes I purchased from Coastal Scents.

The only makeup brushes for the face and cheeks that I’ve ever used are Borghese (Costco) and BareEscentuals. I’ve stopped using the latter because it’s like scraping nettles across my face. The Borghese aren’t as bad but they shed a lot and there is some prickling, although minimal.

All of the brushes by Coastal Scents feel like a mini spa session. You want to keep rubbing them into your face because they’re so soft and do not prickle nor irritate your face in the least. Yet, the prices are amazing. Most of the brushes are less than five dollars but they are very well made. After thorough washing with body cleanser and warm water, they’re still intact and feel great.

Currently priced at $4.25. Love it. I know I’m going to be using this more often than my kabuki brush b/c it does not shed and it doesn’t prickle in the least. Also, I can’t help but feel like it works better in controlling the amount of powder foundation on my face than any kabuki I’ve used – not that I’ve used a whole lot, much less any quality ones, lol.

It feels as great as the buffer brush above and, likewise, does not shed. By the way, guys, if you’re wondering how good the customer service is, just check out their forums. I got gently reprimanded by the owner for not washing my brushes before using them, lol! See how much they care? They’re so keen on keeping their customers happy, too. They even got good commendations by the Better Business Bureau. I am definitely bookmarking them for future purchases.

Possibly their most expensive brush at a “whopping” eight dollars, lol. I did notice it sheds one or two hairs with each use. The color didn’t fade with washing, though. If it did, it was so minimal I didn’t see it. This is my first skunk brush ever and I don’t know if I’m using it right, lol. I feel kinky using it, too, cuz it reminds me of something they’d sell in a sex novelty store. Yep, my mind’s deep in the gutter and that’s why my hair grows so fast.

I love stippling brushes! I have the MAC 187SE and I use it all the time with my tinted moisturiser mixed with some highlighting pigment. I love the light coverage it offers, which is buildable. It’s by far my favourite brush! :)

i know you mentioned the colour was ok after washing but just to clarify, so after washing you don’t get the icky blueish stain on the paper towel or whatever you were drying it on?
i get that with my MAC 187SE and a little with the Sephora one…hmm

arashi: I dried mine out on a yellow towel and it left no stain. I never wiped it after washing, though. I just gently squeezed out the excess moisture with my fingers and laid it on the towel. Previously, I had been wiping it off pretty vigorously on a paper towel soaked with Shu Uemura brush cleaner and it never left a stain. I’m curious to read other ppl’s reviews on this brush, though.

ren: You probably have more experience and expertise on the brushes since I don’t have a whole lot of makeup brush experience under my belt. So, I’d LOVE to see you do a review on your brushes!

liz: I’m actually thinking of getting another one! I hate waiting for this one to dry, lol!

GMM: Haha, that’s what I love most about Coastal Scents brushes. THE PRICE!!!

Another one? I say, go for it, especially at that price!

Arashi: I know your question was directed at Alienman, but I thought I’d offer my two cents. I’ve been using my MAC 187SE (from the Novel Twist set) for 3 months. As soon as I got it, I washed it with baby shampoo and in lukewarm water. And the brush bled, turning the water into a pool of greyish blue muck. So I washed it a couple more times to get rid of the dye before using it on my face. And since then, each time I wash the brush, it would still bleed, but less each time, and it no longer stains the tissue on which I lay the brush to dry. I’m hoping that after another 15 washes, it’ll stop bleeding altogether!

not like i need any more brushes, but YOUR kabuki brush looks better than mine!! *jealous pout* i am so going to buy one like yours.

thanks for clarifying! Liz, I guess that happens with the SE brushes…mine is also the Novel Twist one and it turns the water greyish everytime i wash it. it hasn’t affected the performance of the brush but it bothers me when i wash it…i don’t get the same gratification from cleaning it as with my other brushes that don’t bleed.

When I read the part about you having dirty thoughts and your hair growing fast, I almost peed laughing. My old coworker/friend at the hagwon I used to teach at used to say that allllll the time. We’d run our fingers through each others hair and giggle about it. Awww, good times.

lucky! I got both 187se and the full size. I didn’t notice much of the se version, but the full size SCRATCHES my face. It also sheds. I can tolerate a few shedding (not continuously shedding though), but something worth almost $50 shouldn’t scratch my face. Gotta find time to return it to nordies. I am so getting these CS brushes!

gisele: Wow, the 187 was always been raved about, I didn’t know it’d be scratchy! I hate scratchy brushes :( I can’t even wear a wool sweater!

lastoneout: Who says I was joking? HAR HAR HAR!! j/k j/k :D Thanks for coming in and checking out my brawg!

I’m thinking about buying that duo stippling brush from Coastal Scents, but I want to hear your thoughts. Do you like it? And does it still shed?
