I used to be a huge fan of the show “Las Vegas” on NBC. This season, though, SOMETHING changed and it’s just become one disastrous episode after another.
I don’t know if any of you guys have watched this show, but it’s become a joke. Furthermore, it’s become a racist and sexist joke. Letting this kind of bigotry continue on for so long seems dangerous.
At first, it seemed cute that Polly the Asian spa lady got more screen time. For some reason, the gorgeous Indian girl, whose name escapes me, was removed and I guess they needed another token Asian to fill in. With the Indian girl, though, there were no stereotypes. She was just a smart and pretty girl whom Mike had a crush on. While I can’t vouch much for the gender representations of this show (all the women are sluts), I liked that they didn’t try to stereotype Asians and make exotic fools of them.
Polly, though. She’s a wince and a cringe.
She’s literally a step backwards from the struggle that minorities have gone through to come thus far in being better represented by the mass media. In fact I’d say she’s EXACTLY what Asians did not like about how they were represented in television years ago. She is the dim-witted meddling woman who talks in really bad similes and has no more personality than a third rate dirty jokes book.
As slutty as the women were, their characters used to be interesting. Now, they’re even sluttier (which I didn’t know was possible) and pretty much boring. I keep watching this crap, hoping it’d get back to being as good as it was, but I’m not sure if I should :/ e
