BB Cream coming my way

I totally let myself get suckered into this whole BB Cream (Blemish Balm Cream) craze, no thanks to Gisele from ABB for bringing that up. (Yeah, you heard me, Gisele, I’m putting this all on you! Neener neener neeeeenerrr, you can’t get meee, I’m all the way on the other side of the world wide webbbb, neenerrrr~)

She brilliantly lured me into the trap by providing the following link:
http://kimoko.livejournal.com/197110.html#cutid1

Consequentially, that link led me to this link:
http://forums.cozycot.com/showthread.php?t=26032

Then I browsed my favorite Korean search engine Naver.com, and looked up BB Cream recommendations and reviews for people with skin like mine (acne prone with scarring). Eventually, I placed orders on Gmarket.com for the following (translated as best I could in spite of odd scientific terminology):

Skin 79 Derma Rx Beblesh Balm
(what, pray tell, is a ‘beblesh’? I googled the word and it led me right back to this product, which tells me that this company pretty much made up this word. I am highly suspicious that some kid who was in charge of labeling their product couldn’t remember the word “blemish” and was on a tight deadline, so he just put in whatever sounded right. I hope to high heavens that I’m wrong)

Their product description:
Approved by the KFDA (Korean Food and Drug Administration), provides UV block/ whitening / Nutrition & moisture / pore tightening / skin protection / makeup base / Special Care Foundation. Contains NANO Coenzyme Q10, (insert: some skin-firming ingredient that google keeps translating as “baby Lenin” lawl), caviar extracts etc…

This retails for about $35-40 in Korea. Gmarket had an offer for two for ten bucks. I caved.

Lioele Beyond the Solution Blemish Balm Cream

Absorbs into skin with smooth application, creating a clean and natural skin tone. Eliminates the need for makeup base or foundation, thus making speedy makeup application possible. Ingredients like Bisabolol, Dipotassium glycyrrhizate and allantoin calm the skin, while ingredients like jojoba oil, macadamia nut oil, hyaluronic acid and marine collagen keep the skin dewy and smooth.

Retail Price: 2 for $75-80
Gmarket is offering two BB cream tubes, plus a free gift choice between a mineral powder and a “soft pearl” compact, for $25. I caved in.

Shipping cost me about as much as the merchandise but I really, really, really want to give these products a try, so I took the risk.

I’ll let you guys know how everything worked out.

I heard about BB Cream from a Korean friend/colleague. She tried it when she was back in Korea for the summer (Skin79). She’s trying to convince me to try it, but I don’t know if I want to. I don’t even use foundation much, cause I don’t really have much to cover up (at least I don’t think so :P ) and I don’t want to get too used to having flawless skin during the day only to be frightened by the reflection in the mirror when I ‘take off my face’ at night. :D

But do let me know how it works after you’ve tried it for a few times. :P

Hi there, I came across your blog while searching info on BB creams. How in the heck did you place your order on gmarket.com? When I try to click the Place Order button it brings me to a blank page. I think their english site is buggy. ): Any ideas?

  3. alien man?!

christina: i suspect it may be because you’re not using IE to browse and most korean websites will not work properly unless viewed with IE scripts. i use IE tab, an extension of firefox, to view Korean websites, including Gmarket. i hope that helps you, too

liz: hey, if you’re happy w/the way your skin looks, don’t bother getting a product you don’t even need. as for me, i’ve got heavy scarring and really bad acne breakouts, and i hear this actually helps reduce breakouts and soothe the skin. i say you should save your money and use it to bake another ice cream cake :D

  4. Liz

Hahaha, yes, another ice cream cake. Seeing how much you paid for those two tubes, I could afford to make perhaps 5 of those cakes! :P

I think BB Cream did indeed start out as a treatment cream, but my friend told me that because it’s so popular now, lots of companies make them, so the quality and effect varies. I don’t know how true that is though (it might just be my friend’s aversion to non-name brands).

Generally speaking, my skin is in fairly good condition, just a bit red around the cheeks and nose and some freckles here and there, none of which bother me much. Is it bad that I’m not bothered?? (My mum is always horrified to hear that I’m happy with my freckles! :D )

  5. alien man?!

pfft, my mom thinks there’s something wrong w/me for not wanting to undergo cosmetic surgery. doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. i like freckles, actually. i wonder why so many people consider them to be unattractive?

  6. Liz

I don’t know… it seems to bother Asians more than Caucasians. Of course I think porcelain skin is pretty, but I don’t mind my freckles cause I accept that I am not and don’t have to be pretty.

It’s hard for mothers to accept that. Who doesn’t want a pretty daughter?

Hi again! Thanks for your quick response. Ok, so I used IE and I was able to click the Place Order button. However, now my problem is at Step 2: Entering Your Shipping Information. I entered all my info blah blah and click the Place Order button. I confirm when it asks and now I’m stuck at this page that has coding gone wrong on the left, and being stuck at “Under Processing. Please Wait.” ): This website hates me. lol.

    Hi, Christina:
Thanks again for coming by :) I’m sorry the website hasn’t been friendly to you :( Maybe you should send customer service an e-mail, although I’m not sure how prompt and helpful they’ll be.

By the way, what method of payment were you trying to use? Try to use paypal if possible because, if you try to use a US credit card, they’ll ask you to fax some verification for it.

Liz, yea, I know for a fact that Koreans don’t want ANY kind of marks on their faces, not even beauty marks, so a lot of women get them removed before their weddings. Such standards of beauty seem so unnatural, which is hypocritical because, at the same time, they want to look “naturally” perfect and pretty, like they were born that way, and therefore lie about having had some work done.

  9. Liz

Yeah, I know what you mean. This Korean girl I know (not the friend that told me about BB Cream) is like that. She obviously wears makeup and has had her lids done (and we’re guessing nose too), but she always speaks as if she rolls out of bed looking like that. There was this one time that I asked how she did her makeup, and she said, makeup? what makeup? I don’t wear makeup! And yet, she was sporting dark smokey eyes with thick liners and mauve lips! :P

I don’t know. I think it’s perfectly fine to want to look pretty, that’s why it’s perfectly alright to wear makeup. But to do that and then deny it? What’s the point?

  10. Christina

I’ve sent an email to customer service but no response yet. Just wondering.. do you go through the Korean or English version of the site? I’ve tried every option of payment for the heck of it and it all fails me. sniff. I want to place my order dang it! lol. Honestly though, 3 items for 24.00 U.S. is so awesome. Even with shipping its not bad. Ebay and some other places run about 50 dollars for 1 item. Geez…

  11. petitebelle

oooo caviar extracts! that must be…good? haha. but i heard that Q10 is very good for anti-aging purposes. Do keep us updated on this, I’m very curious about how it turns out. How long does it take to ship from Korea?

  12. alien man?!

petitebelle: Am I the only one’s who’s never heard of the benefits of caviar extracts? I can’t wait for the stuff to arrive but I have no idea when to expect it, especially w/the holidays being right in our laps. The moment it comes in, though, you’ll be hearing about it :)

christina: man, I’m actually pretty bummed out to hear that website isn’t so user friendly. Nor do I know how good their customer service is but most Korean companies take customer service seriously. I hope you hear from them soon. I ordered mine via the Korean version of the website (viewed with IE tab on firefox).

I’m even willing to help you out and meet up w/you on AIM and walk you through the Korean website to place your order. It sounds like you’re at least as interested in the stuff as I am, so how about it?

  13. alien man?!

liz: that korean friend of yours sounds like someone i could never get along with, no offense. there is no shame in wearing makeup. i think one of the reasons i couldn’t bring myself to undergo surgery is b/c i’d end up telling everybody that i did it and i guess that’d kind of defeat the purpose of the surgery in the first place.

  14. Christina

Oh, that would be awesome! Here’s my AIM: lil mz christina. Lol @ my SN .. gosh I’ve had that for years. Thanks for being so helpful by the way. :D

  15. Liz

No offense taken! I can’t stand her, so I don’t see her much and when I do, I don’t dwell much on related topics! :P

  16. Anna

i also heard about this and i am anxious on your update girl :)

  17. Christina

Hey girl! Getting side tracked from studying for my final and went to gmarket to try again, and it works! I guess they fixed the english site. :) Thanks sooo much again for all your help, I’ll be checking back to read your reviews on them. :D Take care!

  18. alien man?!

christina: i’m so glad to hear that!! it seems that i kept missing you on AIM, so i’m very relieved to hear that you were able to place your order. the delivery is going to take forever. i checked my status and only one has reached its destination IN KOREA, meaning, it’s going to be a while before both of them are shipped to me.

anna: hey~ it’s good to see you here :) yea, i’m pretty excited, too, but omg haha i’m so impatient. i want it NOW!!!
