I don’t believe for a minute that the media has much influence in making people think it’s okay to be overweight. What I SHOULD have said is, “I don’t believe that showing overweight people on television is much impact on the condoning of obesity.” – [edit May 31] If anything, as far as media influences go in terms of body image, the bigger concern should be in anorexia and unhealthy beauty standards that drive so many young girls under the knife.

IMO, if that skinny blonde REALLY cares about cracking down on the media for condoning weight-related problems (as if that’s the biggest thing we should even be worried about because people aren’t starving in the rest of the world and people aren’t falling ill to avoidable terminal diseases and gender-based violence isn’t running rampant throughout the friggin world), she should be going after those tv commercials and promos for fast food chains that keep telling America that “it’s okay to indulge” and to “feed your desires” over and over again. They should be making positive movements to change how food is produced and marketed in the US so that high-calorie foods aren’t so much more cheaper by the ounce than fruits and vegetables.

Instead, they’re condemning a show for doing its job, which is recognizing the talents of a beautiful young girl who happens to not have the body of Christina Aguilera. Sorry, MeMe Roth (and your name is STUPID btw get a real nickname) but you’ve totally chosen the wrong target.
