It’s not a rare occurrence. But, it’s not normal.
A 12 month report by the South African police, prior to March 2005, shows more than 22,000 cases of child rape. The NOWCA states that 25% of girls under 16 have been raped and that a child is raped every 24 minutes. The Child Protection Unit reports that, in the first nine months of 2001, over a third of the 15,650 reported child-rape cases were against children under 11 years old, including 5-month-old Baby Tsepang and a 2-month-old. South Africa’s Medical Research Council estimates that only 10 percent of actual rape incidents are reported. Most of the offenders are neighbors, family friends and even close relatives of survivors.
I contacted MADaboutART.org to tell them I had seen the video and had shared it on my forum.
They forwarded my e-mail to the team who had put together the video and one of the girls wrote me back:

video.and the video i did is coz i was raped when i was only 13 years and
with in the eagles group there was other 3 girls in my team that was raped
by their fathers. thats why i did the film
I cannot imagine what it must be like to have this kind of history in one’s life. Nor can I imagine the amount of strength and courage it must take to approach this sensitive issue and produce it on a video. I don’t know if I could demonstrate the kind of spirit that these kids have, if I had to go through what they had.
The world needs to know there are survivors whose voices need to be heard.
